Workshop Description

This introductory course is designed to teach the fundamentals for successful diagnosis and grading of the patient with medially luxating patella. The participant will develop the skills for surgical treatment of the patient with patella luxation based on etiology and pathology of the disorder. The focus of the two day laboratory exercises will be on the surgical management of grade 2 medially luxating patellas with tips on improving sulcoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition techniques. In addition, there will be discussions on co-managing patella luxation with cruciate ligament injury, as well as assessing and treating Grade 3 to 4 patella luxation.

Workshop Objectives

Following successful completion of this course, the participant will:

• Have the ability to diagnose and grade medial patella luxation.

• Have the knowledge to assess when the “traditional” techniques are not indicated as in Grade 3 and 4 patella luxation cases and what osteotomy procedures might be required.
