Join us on May 30-31st 2024, for our Medical and Surgical Management of Aural Disease workshop sponsored by Knight Benedikt at VetPartners Veterinary Training Centre, Sydney, Australia!
During the medical approach to otitis externa day we will discuss obtaining a history in patients with otitis and how to perform a thorough physical examination while avoiding inducing ear phobias. Other topics will include the underlying causes of otitis externa, the differences between otitis media and otitis interna, management of otitis externa including the use of different topical medications, and how to educate clients on this often frustrating condition in which client compliance is critical. Finally we will finish on discussing recent research and trends relating to otitis externa and how cats differ from canine patients.
The surgical practical cadaver sessions will be focused on total ear canal ablation/bulla osteotomy, (focusing on how to locate the facial nerve during TECA).

Course Description

Key Skills
By the end of day 1 of the workshop, delegates will:
- Develop an understanding of the medical approach to otitis externa so that fewer patients require salvage procedures
- Learn how to perform gentle ear handling, ear examination and application of ear treatments
- Appreciate the differences between canine and feline otitis
By the end of day 2 of the workshop, delegates will have a deeper understanding of:
- Aural and para aural anatomy
- How to locate the facial nerve during aural surgery
- Total ear canal ablation and ventral bulla osteotomy
