This highly practical two-day course is designed to improve your understanding of fracture mechanics and bone healing.  This workshop will focus on classification and assessment of fractures, decision making for fracture planning and the practical surgical skills needed to confidently treat common long bone fractures in practice using locking plates.  Both days will include seminars and hands-on cadaver practice.

Course Description

This highly practical two-day course is designed to improve your understanding of fracture mechanics and bone healing.  This workshop will focus on classification and assessment of fractures, decision making for fracture planning and the practical surgical skills needed to confidently treat common long bone fractures in practice using locking plates.  Both days will include seminars and hands-on cadaver practice.

 

Key Skills:

At the end of this workshop delegates should be able to:

  • Assess and classify long bone fractures to make an appropriate treatment plan
  • Understand the theory and practical application of locking plates
  • Understand and apply principles relating to bone healing and fracture biomechanics.
  • Be confident with surgical approaches to common long bone fractures
  • Know how to approach common long bone fracture configurations using bone plates, intramedullary pins, k-wires and cerclage wire
  • Know how to avoid and manage complications
