Our focus will be on the potential causes of vision loss and subsequently differentiating these between medical and surgical candidates. We will discuss some of the more common ocular emergencies including glaucoma, anterior lens luxation, deep or infected corneal ulcers, and proptosis, along with their management.
The surgical portion of this day is designed to help individuals expand their ophthalmic surgery repertoire. We will practice advanced techniques such as wedge excision combined with Hotz-Celsus for severe entropion, sliding grafts for larger eyelid defects, and the Morgan Pocket Technique for cherry eye.

Key Skills

  • Differentiate between causes of vision loss based on ophthalmic exam
  • Identification of common ocular emergencies including determining depth of a corneal ulceration, glucoma and lens luxation
  • Practice advanced eyelid reconstruction techniques and the Morgan Pocket technique for Cherry Eye.
