Workshop Description

This is an advanced workshop for surgical residents and veterinary surgeons with experience of performing orthopaedic surgery, to further their knowledge of using IMEX external fixation. This highly practical 2-day workshop introduces hybrid fixation for the management of fractures and acute limb deformity correction, as well as use of circular fixation for fracture repair, distraction osteogenesis and hinged limb deformity correction. Biomechanics, surgical planning, frame design and practical application will be discussed in lectures with numerous Dry-Lab practicals designed to familiarise delegates with components, frame design and application. 

Attending this workshop will provide surgeons with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and skills in the application of external skeletal fixation and to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in this field. 

Workshop Objectives

• Develop advanced skills in constructing frames for fractures, non-unions, bone defects, and other limb salvage techniques
• Conduct a presurgical plan to effectively correct common angular limb deformities
• Correct antebrachial length discrepancies for optimal surgical outcomes
