Workshop Description
This beginner-friendly, two-day workshop provides veterinarians with the essential knowledge and practical skills for diagnosing and treating medial patellar luxation (MPL). You'll learn to accurately grade the condition, understand its underlying causes, and confidently perform surgical techniques such as sulcoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition for Grade 2 cases. Hands-on laboratory sessions will extend your expertise in managing Grade 3-4 cases and co-existing cranial cruciate ligament injuries. Gain practical tips and real-world strategies to significantly boost your confidence in treating this common orthopedic condition.
Workshop Objectives
- Diagnose and Grade MPL: Accurately diagnose and grade Medial Patellar Luxation (MPL), understanding its causes and diagnostic methods.
- Reinforce Regional Anatomy: Deepen the knowledge of the regional anatomy relevant to the surgical procedures covered in the workshop.
- Understand Surgical Techniques for Patella Luxation: Confidently perform surgical techniques, including tibial tuberosity transposition and sucoplasty, for low grade clinically significant patella luxation, excluding severe cases.
- Recognize Advanced & Concurrent Conditions: Determine when traditional MPL techniques are insufficient and effectively co-manage MPL with concurrent cranial cruciate ligament injuries and meniscal tears.
- Gain Surgical Proficiency & Confidence: Improve practical surgical skills and confidence through hands-on practice, case studies, and familiarization with the latest technology.

Prerequisites
To ensure participants gain the utmost benefit from this course, it is not recommended that all registrants have prior experience with either a basic fracture repair course or an extracapsular cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) stifle stabilization course. A fundamental understanding of the basic surgical approach to the stifle joint is also advised before registration.
CE Credits
This workshop is pending RACE approval for 16 continuing education credits.
