Workshop Description

This full-day workshop consists of online learning, followed by comprehensive classroom instruction and extensive hands-on laboratory experience. Our multi-faceted approach to education is designed to offer participants the necessary resources and support to sufficiently familiarize themselves with the procedure, and reliably offer an advanced orthopedic service to their clientele. Participants will learn the proper technique for the use of our Small Breeds System, focusing on preoperative planning, surgical technique, and clinical follow-up, with an opportunity to use the instruments to gain an understanding of the surgical objectives.

Workshop Objectives

Participants of the Small Breeds Total Hip Replacement Workshop are expected to achieve familiarity with surgical instrumentation, recognize indications of THR, and depart with a solid understanding of the cup and stem surgical technique. Participants should be familiar with both press-fit and cemented acetabular cups and know when the use of each is appropriate.

Workshop Prerequisites

Participants are required to have THR experience. Prior completion of the Universal Hip workshop or an equivalent complete THR workshop is recommended.

Attendees who have not completed the Product Mentorship Program for standard-sized THR are required to participate in Mentorship for our Small Breeds THR System. More information about our Mentorship Program will be provided at the workshop.

Online Course

To maximize the hands-on learning of laboratory exercises, the BioMedtrix® Universal Hip™ Small Breeds Online Course was developed to provide educational reference material and resources. Consisting of reading assignments, visual aids and videos, self-assessment activities, and moderated discussion forums, BioMedtrix online courses are designed to enhance a participating surgeon’s understanding of the material and reinforce the learning process. Completion of the online material is required for surgeons to be prepared to participate in the hands-on laboratory exercises.

Product Mentorship

Surgeons who have completed a BioMedtrix workshop may choose to participate in the Product Mentorship Program. This program incurs additional costs and is designed to support new total joint replacement surgeons as they progress beyond attendance at a total joint replacement workshop, towards performing clinical total joint replacement procedures. Surgeons who complete this program will have demonstrated an understanding of the concepts necessary for successful clinical results. The program offers three potential pathways to practice the procedure, gain confidence, and validate a surgeon’s comprehension of the concepts required for successful clinical results. One of the following three pathways may be selected: Cadaver Implantation, Surgeon Assist Training, or Mentor Training. Completion of the Mentorship Program is a required process prior to purchasing implants from BioMedtrix for total joint systems. The Product Mentorship Program is offered for the Universal Hip and Small Breed Hip systems.

Movora provides all equipment and materials for each workshop.
