Course Description

In this course we will discuss wound healing, how to manage open wounds and skin reconstruction techniques. You will then be able to practise and consolidate the theoretical knowledge in the wet lab. The cadaver workshops will include excision of common skin masses, tension relieving techniques, subdermal pattern flaps, axial pattern flaps and skin grafts. This course will give you the confidence to customise your approach for each patient helping you to utilise wound management and skin reconstruction techniques to get those terrifying wounds under control.

Participants will receive the first two chapters (Anatomy of the Skin and Wound Healing) approximately two weeks prior to the course. These chapters constitute assumed knowledge for the workshop, and participants are strongly advised to review them in advance.

Key Skills

  • Make decisions on management of open wounds
  • Know and apply the principles of surgical wound closure
  • Confidently perform wound reconstruction with local skin flaps or axial pattern flaps

Value to Your Practice
