Join us on April 10, 2026 for our Part 1: Introduction to the Stifle: Patella workshop at the Advanced Centre for Education (ACE) in Sydney, Australia!

 

This course will review the common presentations of canine patella luxation, along with the associated diagnostic challenges and treatment strategies. Participants will gain the confidence to manage medial patella luxation using a combination of trochleoplasty, tibial tuberosity transposition, and fascial imbrication and release. The workshop will also address challenges encountered in more complex cases and provide guidance on when advanced imaging should be considered.

Course Description

Participants should have a strong interest in surgery and possess a basic understanding of canine stifle anatomy and diagnostic strategies for cruciate disease.

Key Skills 

At the end of this workshop, delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise key points in the diagnosis and assessment of patella luxation in dogs
  • Perform an extended surgical approach to the stifle to perform a trochleoplasty (block)
  • Perform a tibial tuberosity transposition and stabilise with K-wires and tension band
  • Perform a lateral fascial imbrication and medial release

By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence to diagnose and treat canine medial patella luxation, understand the common challenges associated with surgical repair, and gain insight into perioperative management and effective owner communication.
