Course Description

Some prior experience with clinical dental cases, particularly extractions, is recommended, along with a foundational understanding of small animal dentistry.

Key Skills

  • A preliminary discussion around structure and function within the feline oral cavity will help expand on foundational knowledge
  • Extraction technique will be discussed including strategies to avoid complications. (The afternoon workshop session each day will allow attendees to practice these techniques)
  • A practical approach to maxillofacial trauma discussing and practicing minimally invasive jaw fracture fixation methods
  • Develop a sound knowledge of dental anatomy and function
  • Perform a full oral health assessment, including recognition of common diseases
  • Know when to save teeth rather than extract teeth
  • Develop confidence in recognising and treating feline-specific diseases
  • Confidently take diagnostic radiographs
  • Recognise normal anatomy and interpret common dental pathology on dental radiographs
  • Know where and how to place dental nerve blocks and understand potential complications and how to avoid them
  • Confidently perform dental extractions, and design appropriate periodontal flaps for surgical extractions
  • Understand how to minimise and prevent extraction complications

Value to Your Practice

Enhance your confidence in performing complex feline dental extractions and know when extraction isn’t the best option. Develop practical skills for managing maxillofacial trauma cases, and gain a thorough understanding of dental radiographic techniques and interpretation, even if you have limited prior experience or equipment access.
