Workshop Description
Developed in cooperation with experienced industry-leading surgeons, this one-day workshop will give BioMedtrix Total Hip Replacement surgeons the opportunity to enhance their technique through surgical exercises focusing on the use of intra-op imaging to improve implant preparation, selection, and positioning.
Workshop Objectives
The objectives of this laboratory are to demonstrate and teach:
- How to establish and confirm appropriate pre-op pelvis positioning in the sagittal plane and review effects of parallax
- Imaging techniques to improve acetabular bone preparation and BioMedtrix BFX cup implant sizing, position, and adjustment as needed
- Imaging techniques to improve co-axial femoral bone preparation, avoidance of intra-op femur fissuring and fracture and BioMedtrix BFX femoral stem size selection, depth of insertion and orientation
- 4th generation femoral stem cement techniques including pulsatile femoral canal lavage, use of canal restrictor plugs, stem centralizers, closed vacuum mixing systems, and pressurized cement injection to reduce the time and stress/anxiety associated with bone cement and improve BioMedtrix CFX stem outcomes
Each attendee, working in pairs, will have an opportunity to position the cadaver/pelvis, approach one hip, and prepare and implant one acetabular cup, one non-augmented BFX cementless stem, and upon removal, one CFX cemented stem prior to the lunch break. Following the break, the other member of the group will repeat the same process on the contralateral hip.
This laboratory includes the use of cadavers.
