Workshop Description

This is a blended, online + hands-on, plating course.  You will be enrolled for free, for our online course 'Intro to TPLO' to gain a foundation of knowledge before the in-person workshop.  We’ve taken 3 hours of insightful, valuable learning that is self-paced and easy to fit into your day. Our instructors will provide knowledgeable lectures and valuable demonstrations followed by your performing the same procedures on bone models. Clinical case discussions will put everything into context and allow us to discuss postoperative care and strategies to reduce complications.

Cranial cruciate ligament failure is one of the most common orthopedic conditions causing lameness in dogs and most veterinarians advocate surgery to improve limb function. The tibial plateau leveling osteotomy typically yields good functional results and is currently the most common procedure performed by veterinary surgeons to address this condition. This interactive, in-person portion includes lectures and laboratories to teach participants the underlying pathology associated with cranial cruciate ligament failure. Detailed instruction of how to plan and properly execute the tibial plateau leveling osteotomy procedure will be covered, in addition to the theory and method of the procedure. Participants will perform TPLOs using state of the art equipment and implants. Participants will use locking plate technology to simplify, increase precision and reduce complications of the procedure. Participants should have a basic knowledge of the surgical anatomy and approach to the stifle. Postoperative radiographs will be taken to assess the participant’s repair technique. Postoperative management will also be discussed.

Workshop Objectives

Participants will:

  • Update their knowledge on practical surgical techniques and procedures
  • Increase confidence levels when performing various soft tissue and orthopedic surgery procedures.
  • Gain a better knowledge of the regional anatomy related to each surgical procedure
  • Better understand how to perform each surgical technique through extensive use of video case examples coupled with hands-on laboratory practice.
  • Realize that many soft tissue and orthopedic surgery procedures are possible to perform in practice

This course will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

Diagnostics for Cranial Cruciate Ligament Disease Online Course – This course covers how to diagnose CrCL by describing the history findings consistent with cranial cruciate ligament disease and identifying findings on orthopedic examination that would be consistent with pelvic limb lameness and cranial cruciate ligament disease.  This course will take approximately 0.5 hours to complete
