Workshop Description

Cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) insufficiency is among the most common orthopedic conditions in dogs and cats. Effectively addressing these issues requires accurate diagnosis, a solid understanding of pathogenesis, and practical surgical skills that can be applied in everyday clinical practice.

This hands-on course delivers current insights into the etiology , diagnosis, and treatment of CrCL insufficiency and meniscal pathology. Through a combination of focused lectures, and practical lab sessions, participants will learn to distinguish between partial and complete CrCL tears, practice isometric extracapsular stabilization, manage meniscal tears and perform meniscal release.

Attendees will build their skills using plastic bone models and cadaver specimens, with opportunities to assess their surgical techniques through postoperative radiograph review. The course also covers essential aspects of postoperative care, including the identification and management of potential complications, to optimize patient outcomes.

Designed for general practitioners, this course emphasizes techniques that are immediately applicable, helping participants build confidence and refine their orthopedic capabilities in a supportive, practical setting.

Workshop Objectives

In this hands-on OrthoSta Course, participants will be able to:
  • Accurately assess and diagnose cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) insufficiency through clinical examination and radiographic interpretation.
  • Perform and gain proficiency in isometric extracapsular stabilization techniques, including treatment of meniscal tears and meniscal release, treatment of MPL using cadaveric specimens and plastic bone models.
  • Apply surgical principles confidently in practice through expert-led labs and case-based discussions.
  • Develop effective postoperative care plans, including the recognition and management of potential complications.
  • Establish a solid foundation in stifle stabilization techniques to support the integration of extracapsular stabilization into clinical practice.
