This workshop is open to all participants, and no prior orthopedic experience is required.  However, a good working knowledge of stifle anatomy is recommended to help participants maximize their learning experience.

Workshop Description

This beginner-friendly, two-day workshop provides veterinarians with the essential knowledge and practical skills for diagnosing and treating medial patellar luxation (MPL). You'll learn to accurately grade the condition, understand its underlying causes, and confidently perform surgical techniques such as sulcoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition for Grade 2 cases. Hands-on laboratory sessions will extend your expertise in managing clinically affected cases. Gain practical tips and real-world strategies to significantly boost your confidence in treating this common orthopedic condition.  During this workshop you will gain hands-on experience with wedge recession, block recession, and SCRT patellar techniques.

Following the lecture and case review, participants will perform all these different techniques on cadavers and plastic bone models. Postoperative management will also be discussed.

Workshop Objectives

  • Diagnose & Grade MPL: Accurately diagnose and grade Medial Patellar Luxation (MPL), understanding its causes and diagnostic methods.
  • Reinforce Regional Anatomy: Deepen knowledge of the regional anatomy relevant to the surgical procedures covered in the workshop.
  • Understand Surgical Techniques for Patella Luxation: Confidently perform surgical techniques, including tibial tuberosity transposition and sulcoplasty, for low-grade clinically significant patella luxation, excluding severe cases.
  • Recognize Advanced & Concurrent Conditions: Determine when traditional MPL techniques are insufficient and effectively co-manage MPL with concurrent cranial cruciate ligament injuries and meniscal tears.
  • Gain Surgical Proficiency & Confidence: Improve practical surgical skills and confidence through hands-on practice, case studies, and familiarization with the latest technology.  Gain hands-on experience with wedge recession, block recession, and SCRT patellar techniques
