VMX Advances in the Extracapsular Suture Technique for the Management of the CrCL Deficient Stifle in the Dog and Cat Workshop
Course
About
Description
Dogs will often present with lameness secondary to complete or cranial cruciate ligament rupture. Upon physical exam, the stifle is very unstable with excessive cranial-caudal translation and the presence of excess internal rotational instability. To return the patient to normal function, the instability associated with CrCl injury must be addressed (stabilized).
The technique described and performed on sawbones and cadavers in this laboratory allows the attending surgeon to stabilize the craniocaudal/rotational laxity.
The technique proposed is an isometric extracapsular procedure that has proven excellent short term and long term outcome as evidenced by laboratory and clinical studies.

- evaluate the internal structures of the joint.
- Upon completion of the course, each participant will be able to identify the and execute stabilization using the isometric sites.
- Upon completion of the course, each participant will be able to describe and implement a post operative rehabilitation program.
- Upon completion of the course, each participant will be able to discuss common complication
- associated with the above procedure and describe appropriate management techniques.
