Workshop Description

This integrated 4-day program combines a condensed KYON Total Hip Replacement Workshop with the KYON THR Wet Lab Case Evaluation, creating an efficient, end-to-end learning and assessment experience within a single event.

Developed in collaboration with leading orthopedic surgeons, the event blends comprehensive online learning, focused classroom instruction, and extensive hands-on wet lab practice. Participants will gain a solid foundation in the KYON Zurich Cementless THR system and have the opportunity to start their required wet lab case evaluations of the KYON THR Mentorship Program on site.

April 19-20: KYON Total Hip Replacement Workshop

Participants will learn proper use of the KYON Zurich Cementless Total Hip Replacement System, with emphasis on:

  • Preoperative planning

  • Surgical technique

  • Instrument handling and surgical objectives

  • Postoperative care and clinical follow-up

The workshop includes targeted lectures and hands-on laboratories designed to build strong procedural understanding.

April 21-22: KYON THR Wet Lab Case Evaluation (in-person)

Following the workshop, participants move directly into the KYON THR Wet Lab Case Evaluation—part of the KYON THR Mentorship Program.

  • Surgeons will perform assessed wet lab surgeries with the goal of completing at least three cases with a score of 15 or higher, without critical errors, for approval.

  • Assessors grade cases on-site and provide immediate feedback.

  • Successful completion qualifies surgeons to purchase standard-size THR implants for their first two clinical cases.

  • If less than three cases are approved within the in-person Wet Lab Case Evaluation, further cases must be submitted remotely or performed in another in-person event.

This integrated assessment eliminates the need to coordinate your own wet lab cases and accelerates progress toward clinical readiness.

Workshop Objectives

Participants will:

  • Build foundational knowledge and hands-on proficiency in the KYON THR procedure.

  • Develop competency in planning, executing, and assessing THR surgeries.

  • Gain familiarity with instruments and surgical goals using the Zurich Cementless THR system.

Evaluation Objectives

Participants will:

  • Start the KYON THR Mentorship Program.
  • Strengthen technical skill and confidence through multiple wet lab surgeries under evaluation conditions.

  • Receive constructive, immediate feedback from KYON THR expert assessors.

Passing the wet lab evaluation is not guaranteed and depends on case quality and scoring.

Intended Audience

This program is designed for surgeons planning to integrate KYON THR into their clinical practice. To perform KYON THR, clinics must have:

  • A suitable surgical suite

  • Digital radiography

  • Bone plating and power equipment

  • KYON THR instrumentation

  • (Optional but advantageous) Intraoperative fluoroscopy

Refer to Foundational Knowledge of Performing THR in the online course path for additional practice requirements.

Prerequisites

To attend this combined event, participants must:

  • Be practicing orthopedic surgeons with at least 5 years of experience.

  • Have previously gained foundational understanding of infection prevention and orthopedic surgical techniques.

  • Have completed the KYON Total Hip Replacement Online Course Path before the workshop date, see information below.

Online Courses

To maximize the hands-on learning of laboratory exercises, the KYON Total Hip Replacement Online Course Path was developed to provide educational reference material and resources to thoroughly prepare surgeons for the hands-on lab. Consisting of reading assignments, visual aids, videos, and self-assessment activities, KYON online courses are designed to enhance a participating surgeon’s understanding of the material and reinforce the learning process.

Completion of the online material is MANDATORY for surgeons to be prepared to participate in the hands-on laboratory exercises. Surgeons will be enrolled automatically to the online courses included in the KYON Total Hip Replacement Online Course Path when purchasing the workshop (without additional fee). We recommend taking the courses one month before attending the workshop.

Product Mentorship

Surgeons who successfully pass the KYON THR Wet Lab Case Evaluation may:

  • Purchase standard-size THR implants for their first two clinical cases

  • Continue through the remaining components of the KYON THR Mentorship Program

  • Work toward full qualification as KYON THR surgeons

For detailed pathway information, see the KYON THR Education Pathway and the KYON THR Wet Lab Evaluation Process.
